We are always happy to welcome new volunteers. Volunteers MUST BE 13 years or older to be eligible for any of our positions.Below is a list of shifts at the Newton Food Pantry. Please email the Volunteer Coordinator using our contact form to confirm shift availability, as some shifts may be full.
Monday Morning Volunteer (75-minute shift): Volunteers will be working with a small team to unload 7,000 pounds of food from our truck. Heavy lifting is required in this role.
Tuesday Pre-Bagging Volunteer (90-minute shift): Volunteers will be bagging nonperishable food and personal care products indoors.
Wednesday Morning Volunteer/Driver: Drivers needed to caravan to Newton housing facilities and make contactless deliveries.Volunteers must have their own car and be able to lift 30-pound bags.
Wednesday Morning Setup: Volunteers needed to help with set up and bagging for bulk delivery pickups.
Wednesday Afternoon Volunteer: Physically fit volunteers needed to help with client grocery distribution. Shift work requires ability to lift 10–50 pound boxes and bags repetitively while being outside in all weather conditions. Spanish, Portuguese, Cantonese or Russian speaking volunteers are an added bonus to us!
Saturday Kids’ Snack Bags Volunteer: The snack bags will be filled by a small number of volunteers on a Saturday morning, once a month, working in two shifts in the Auditorium at the Newton City Hall. Hours: 9-10:30 AM and 10:45-12:15 PM
Home Delivery: Long-term bimonthly commitment to help deliver groceries to medically homebound clients.
