If you live in Newton and do not have enough food, the Newton Food Pantry can help—even if you also receive SNAP or other food assistance.

Free canned goods and other non-perishables that are always available include soup, vegetables, fruit, peanut butter, beans, meals in a can, tuna, rice, cereal, oil, pasta, and tomato sauce.

When available, we offer you free meat, fresh produce, salads, toilet paper, laundry detergent, personal care items, tofu, eggs, cheese, milk, and other dairy products.

How to Get Food

You must be a Newton resident to shop at this pantry. Please complete a Referral Form. Download the form here or pick up at the pantry during our hours of operation. Please complete and have your form signed by a person who can attest to your need—such as a city of Newton social services official, clergy member, physician, or school principal, for example. Bring the completed and signed form, and proof of Newton residency (i.e. tax bill, rent statement, utility bill, phone/cable bill, car registration – Driver’s License are NOT acceptable documentation) when you come to pick up food the first time.

Come to the pantry once a month and shop for your own free food. Our hours are listed at the right. Please bring your own shopping bags.

If you are homebound due to age or disability, you may qualify for home delivery. Please contact us by phone at 617.796.1233 or email.

If the Newton Public Schools are closed due to bad weather, the pantry will also be closed. Check local media for school closing information.
