March Volunteer Spotlight: Susan Bellerose

Susan Bellerose started volunteering at the Newton Food Pantry in 2015. Her primary focus at the pantry has been to help clients with their shopping on Wednesday afternoons. She also compiles and distributes the pantry’s quarterly newsletter, along with periodic emails to volunteers. When asked what she has learned from her experience at the Newton Food Pantry, Susan states, “It’s been eye-opening to realize that there are so many residents in need of food assistance in Newton. I have met many wonderful families who are so appreciative of the amount and variety of the food that we offer.”

In addition to volunteering at the pantry, Susan volunteers as an ESL teacher for the Newton Public Library. In her spare time, she likes to do crossword and jigsaw puzzles, walk, go to the beach, and spend time with family (especially her two daughters) and friends. She and her husband Steve love to travel, and have especially enjoyed active hiking adventures in Glacier National Park, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Acadia, Scotland’s Isle of Skye, and (coming up) Crater Lake in Oregon. Susan also enjoys local hikes as a family followed by a visit to a local brewery. Cheers to that!

Thank you, Susan, for everything that you have done for the pantry!
