Volunteer Spotlight: Herb Plovnick
Herb Plovnick started volunteering at the Newton Food Pantry in 2014 after retiring from his job as an internist with Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates. He helps with deliveries from the Greater Boston Food Bank on Monday mornings, with deliveries and set up for shopping on Wednesday mornings, and also helps with odd jobs such as assembling carts and furniture, hanging pictures, and as a backup for food pickup at Trader Joe’s and Panera Bread. He has also created three lovely watercolor paintings (including the one he is holding in this photo) that were made into notecards that the NFP uses for thank you notes. Herb says, “I did not realize how many Newton residents are dependent on the pantry…It has been a joy to help out the pantry. The dedication and collegiality of the volunteers is amazing.” When he’s not at the Newton Food Pantry, Herb also volunteers with Newton At Home, and enjoys gardening and spending time with his wife Kathy and his mischievous cat Mickey. He and his wife have three children (including twins!) and three grandchildren, all of whom live out of state.
Thank you for all you do for the pantry, Herb, and for your beautiful notecards!
