Volunteer Spotlight: Lisa Tieszen

Lisa Tieszen began volunteering for the Newton Food Pantry 10-12 years ago, initially as part of a social outreach opportunity for her church, Grace Episcopal. Lisa works at the pantry on Saturdays, and particularly enjoys overseeing the welcoming and training of new volunteers. She says, “I am inspired to see the range of people who contribute their time and energy, especially our younger volunteers. To have youth getting up on Saturday mornings (especially teens who would prefer to sleep in) to give of their time to our community while strengthening their leadership skills, is really important to me.” Lisa also works as a social worker, therapist, and consultant with an emphasis on interpersonal violence and crisis response work, and recently formalized her collaboration with a colleague by founding Resilience Works (resilienceworks.org). Her husband and daughter “share her commitment to making this world a better place.” In her spare time, Lisa enjoys biking, weaving, knitting, and reading.

Lisa is serving as Team Captain for the Newton Food Pantry’s Ride for Food cycling team on September 23rd, 2018 (see details under Coming Up! section below), with all donations going to the pantry. Thank you, Lisa!
